Matteo Moretto has revealed that AC Milan considered trying to sign Marcus Rashford, but were priced out of the deal.
Milan were linked with a move for Rashford during the last winter transfer window when it was clear that the forward would be allowed to leave Manchester United. In the end he went to Aston Villa but they did not sign him permanently, with a summer switch to Barcelona following.
As fate would have it, Rashford actually came up against Malick Thiaw just two nights ago. The Englishman got the better of the ex-Milan centre-back, scoring twice against Newcastle United to win the Champions League clash 2-1 for the Blaugrana at St. James’ Park.
Sliding doors
Milan ended up signing Joao Felix and Santiago Gimenez in the winter to strengthen their attack, while in the summer Christopher Nkunku arrived. Moretto gave some background on Rashford, on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel.
“Both Milan and Juventus considered Rashford in January, but didn’t really make the move due to the transaction’s costs. In the summer, the Englishman strongly desired Barcelona,” he said.
The 27-year-old is hoping to find his feet again with Barcelona under Hansi Flick, having lost his way a bit in recent years. His brace on Thursday came under the watchful eyes of England boss Thomas Tuchel, too.
