Moretto: Milan currently ‘have a salary cap’ but it will ‘most likely be raised’

Matteo Moretto believes that AC Milan will raise their wage bill in the months and years to come, but Robert Lewandowski’s salary might be too much.

Calcio e Finanza recently took a look at the Rossoneri’s wage bill for the current 2025-26 season. The most important figure is the total wages paid, and there was actually a slight decrease on the net amount compared to the season prior.

There is an obvious reason: with no European football, there are less revenues and less games so a smaller squad required. The €69.7 million paid in net salaries from 2024-25 has become €63.9m, though there is only a €0.6m difference in gross amounts.

Milan’s gross wage bill is the fifth-highest in Serie A at €104.5m and is €37m behind that of the leaders, Inter. It is also behind Juventus, Napoli and even Roma, which has raised questions.

Milan wage bill ‘will most likely be raised’

Matteo Moretto spoke in a video on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel about the reports linking Milan with a move for Lewandowski, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“I’ll add a detail about Lewandowski. Let’s always keep in mind the salaries of players who might potentially come to Italy, because Lewandowski earns a lot. It’s true that Milan have a salary cap that will most likely be raised. However, Lewandowski earns a lot, and that’s a detail worth considering.”
