Moretto: Milan offered chance to sign €40m-rated Roma forward – the situation

New names continue to be linked every week in AC Milan’s pursuit of a new striker, and one of the players that has joined the list is Artem Dovbyk.

In a press conference to journalists at Casa Milan last month, Milan’s sporting director Igli Tare confirmed that the Rossoneri are aiming to sign a centre-forward with the same characteristics as Olivier Giroud.

“We are evaluating both in Italy and outside Italy: it is a question of characteristics and for our team’s game it is fundamental. He must be a player with completely different characteristics to those of Gimenez, who is not a centre-forward like Giroud. We must be good at completing these two things together,” he said.

There have been many names linked already from Victor Boniface and Rasmus Hojlund to Dusan Vlahovic and Aleksandr Mitrovic. However, at present, there is no one profile that stands out as being close to joining it seems.

Dovbyk offered to Milan

Matteo Moretto spoke during a YouTube video on Fabrizio Romano’s channel and he gave an update on Milan’s search for a new No.9, starting with Dusan Vlahovic (more on that to come) and continuing with a new name.

“Several are emerging. I can confirm that Milan is exploring several clubs, including major ones, to see if they can secure certain names on loan with an option to buy,” he said (via MilanNews).

“However, there’s always the salary to consider, if the other club is open to letting their striker leave on loan with an option to buy. So there are several factors, but Milan is also working on these types of solutions in recent weeks.

“I’m still keeping Arokodare’s name in mind, because it’s a name that’s been put forward to AC Milan and that AC Milan is keeping there in case other options don’t materialise. However, the name I’m giving you tonight is a new one.

“Artem Dovbyk has been offered to the Rossoneri, who, as you know, could leave Roma if a truly attractive offer arrives. The figures are currently off the market, but we need to understand why Dovbyk costs at least €40m, and then we need to figure out how the market can develop from the beginning of August until the end.

“So, in the meantime, I can tell you that Dovbyk’s name has been put forward through several intermediaries, and we’ll see if this type of solution can materialise in one way or another.”
