AC Milan have set their sights on the Corinthians goalkeeper Hugo Souza, per a report, to the point of wanting to secure his services well in advance of the summer.
Mike Maignan’s contract situation has made the headlines countless times over the last few months. The six-month ‘warning’ is approaching, at which point he will be able to sign pre-contracts, but Milan are seemingly more concerned with finding a replacement.
In recent days, Hugo Souza’s name has emerged as a favourite candidate and the links are indeed concrete. At 26 years old, he’s roughly the same age as Maignan was when he joined Milan from Lille back in 2021.
New talks scheduled for summer move
In his two latest videos, the reputable journalist Matteo Moretto has talked about Milan’s interest in Hugo Souza. Yesterday, he stated that Milan had made an offer to sign the goalkeeper already in January, but the figures were deemed too low by Corinthians.
Furthermore, the player clarified that he would like to remain at the Brazilian club until the World Cup, given that he wouldn’t get a starting spot immediately at Milan. Since a lot of Rossoneri fans focused on the player’s rejection, Moretto provided a new update late last night.

Rather than rejecting Milan, Hugo Souza simply expressed a willingness to remain at his current club until the summer to get the playing time. As such, the Rossoneri are still moving ahead with their interest, hoping to secure the player in advance.
Since the January offer was rejected, Milan will soon hold new talks with Corinthians over a summer move, hoping to secure the goalkeeper as early as possible to beat the competition. As for Maignan, nothing has changed: right now, he’s destined to leave the club.
