Moretto offers Maignan update as Milan want answer quickly: “A lot of optimism”

If Mike Maignan signed his renewal, it would give a great deal of comfort to AC Milan, given they would tie down a key asset without needing to replace him.

In the past few weeks, it has seemed that the chances of Maignan renewing have only grown. What seemed like a nearly impossible challenge became unlikely, and now the tables may have turned, with reports suggesting that Milan are beyond optimistic.

Until an answer arrives, there will still be worries about what the answer may be. However, there is not as much fear about a decision anymore.

Moretto’s Maignan update

If he does renew, a heap of praise must be given to Massimiliano Allegri and Claudio Filippi, who have reportedly been key to the Frenchman’s mind opening to a renewal. However, credit must also be given to Igli Tare and Giorgio Furlani for getting the renewal done and it may be completed soon.

In fact, Matteo Moretto stated on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel that a move could be finalised shortly, as MilanNews relays.

“These are really very important days. From what I know and what is being told, I can confirm that Milan has done its best.

“The offer that Milan proposed to Maignan is the same one that was talked about in September 2024, the same one that was talked about in February 2025, when the parties had practically arrived at the signatures.

“Maignan would become the highest-paid footballer of the squad along with Leao. The fixed-line ceiling always remains 5 million net per season plus bonuses: Maignan would enter directly among the highest paid of the squad.

“I want to add, however, that we are not yet at the signatures. It is true that Milan is very optimistic because he believes he has done what he could, he believes that at this moment there are no other clubs ready lurking ready to steal Maignan, and also on an economic level it is an important offer.

“But there is still no definitive yes of Maignan, this last point is still missing. There is a lot of optimism at Milan, but before saying that we are definitely going towards a renewal, we have to go step by step.

“Milan has no time to waste, they want to have an answer as soon as possible because soon Maignan could also sign for free for another club, so they must organise themselves in case. But I repeat, optimism for Milan. Maignan’s yes is still missing, which the club wants to have within a few days.”
