Moretto: ‘Rafa is central’ – Milan begin contacts with Leao and entourage over renewal

Recently, AC Milan have been considering a renewal for Rafael Leao, and discussions have reportedly begun.

This has not been an easy start to the season for Leao. After all, he has missed a good chunk of the opening with an injury. However, he is back to being the starter that Milan need, and has scored three Serie A goals in as many starts.

The idea of centrality has been reinforced by these performances, especially with Massimiliano Allegri shaping his team around the Portuguese star. Now, it seems that the Rossoneri want to reinforce that position.

New deal for Leao?

According to Matteo Moretto, the club have been thinking about a renewal for the star in recent months, and discussions have begun, as Calciomercato.com relay.

“The club initiated initial discussions with the player’s entourage to negotiate a contract renewal. The current deal expires in June 2028, and there’s no rush to sign an extension.

“However, after initial preliminary discussions in the summer, the management has reopened the discussion in recent weeks, considering offering Leao a new contract.”

Of course, there is still a long time before the Diavolo have to worry about his deal. However, we have seen in Mike Maignan’s case, it is better to prioritise safety.
