Moretto reveals Allegri called Juventus defender: “No unanimity within the Milan world”

AC Milan tried to see if there was an opening to sign Federico Gatti in the winter window, but were unable to pursue a deal.

Milan were linked with a number of different central defenders during the January mercato, but in the end they decided to stay as they are. One of the most frequently mentioned targets was Gatti, someone that head coach Massimiliano Allegri knows from his time with Juventus.

A call from Allegri

In a video published on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, Matteo spoke about the future of Gatti, revealing the background on Milan’s pursuit and what might happen when the window reopens.

“Gatti has a contract expiring in 2030, recently renewed, but he had the opportunity to leave Juve during the winter transfer window. However, the right offer didn’t arrive,” he said.

“There was also a phone call from Max Allegri to understand the situation, but there was no unanimity within the Milan world to proceed with a written offer to Juventus for Gatti, who continues to have the Rossoneri manager’s respect.

“I can tell you that Juventus will listen to offers for him in the summer – Gatti is certainly not an unsellable player. If the right offer were to arrive, the defender could leave Juventus.”

It remains to be seen if the Milan management will consider going back in for Gatti ahead of 2026-27, especially with all the talk of Lazio’s Mario Gila having already agreed personal terms over a five-year contract.
