Moretto reveals Milan’s strategy regarding Bartesaghi: “At the end of the season”

AC Milan are planning to sit down with Davide Bartesaghi and discuss a contract renewal, but not for a few more weeks.

Bartesaghi came into the season as the back-up on the left side with Pervis Estupinan having signed from Brighton. However, after the Ecuadorian picked up an injury, the Milan academy graduate seized the spot and never let go of it thanks to some excellent performances.

These performances have led to rumours that some top clubs around Europe are taking an interest. Above all, Premier League leaders Arsenal are believed to be keeping tabs, though the management are keen to move ahead of time and tie down the boyhood Milan fan.

Renewal in the pipeline

During a video on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, Matteo Moretto gave an update on where things stand with Bartesaghi’s contract situation, and MilanNews transcribed what he had to say on the matter.

“Davide Bartesaghi has seen exponential growth this year, both in terms of playing time, which obviously depends on what Bartesaghi has shown on the pitch, because, in short, between assists and goals, high-level performances have guaranteed Massimiliano Allegri a certain level of performance.

“Bartesaghi has carved out a certain role for himself within this current Milan. There’s a lot of talk about a renewal, with Bartesaghi having already recently renewed and potentially extending it again.

“What I can tell you is that I don’t expect any imminent moves regarding a further extension of Bartesaghi’s contract with an associated contractual adjustment. Let’s say it’s an issue that both Milan and Bartesaghi’s entourage will address at the end of the season.

“After the spring, the parties should meet to understand, at the end of the year, what type of situation needs to be resolved. To date, at this moment, there has been no real contact.

“There were some in the past few months, before Christmas, the parties agreed to meet again in the new year, but this there hasn’t been an appointment yet because Bartesaghi and Milan will return to talk about the possible renewal, with a deserved salary adjustment, towards the end of the season.”
