Moretto states that Milan may pay less than agreed €42m for Chelsea’s Nkunku

Despite agreeing to a total package of €42 million for Christopher Nkunku, AC Milan may not reach that payment.

There are several things with transfers that can affect fees, one of them is the bonuses and the structuring of them. For example, Tijjani Reijnders’ move to Manchester City includes a Ballon d’Or clause, as well as some easily achievable amounts.

The former is quite unlikely, as good as the midfielder is. However, the latter clause is quite easy and should see a guaranteed lift in payments.

Less than €40m?

For Chelsea, it seems that the earlier of the two options has been used in the sale for Nkunku, with Milan seemingly unlikely to pay the full price of the package.

According to Matteo Moretto, via Milan Posts on X, the Rossoneri have agreed €5m in add-ons, though they are ‘hardly achievable’. In other words, they may end up paying less than what was initially agreed.

With that said, the fee is reportedly slightly higher than what has previously been suggested. Moretto suggests that the lower value of the bonuses is changed for a higher base figure, €38m rather than the previously suggested €35-36m.

Of course, this is not a huge difference. Though if the Diavolo are paying less than €40m, it certainly looks like a better deal.
