This summer, it seemed Mike Maignan would leave AC Milan with his contract expiring next summer. However, instead, the club are going to gamble.
There is a lot of time left this summer, so it would be no surprise if there was interest towards the end of the mercato. Right now, though, Maignan is not for sale, and Massimiliano Allegri confirmed as much during his press conference.
However, this means that the club will lose him in 2026 for nothing. Unless, the club can salvage negotiations.
Returning to the table
Everyone is aware of the situation, Maignan wants European football, and last season can, hopefully, be viewed as an anomaly to that. Then, there is the other obvious point, there is only, really, six months to sort a deal. When January rolls around, it is open season.
Matteo Moretto states, via MilanXtra, that nothing is happening just yet regarding negotiations. But, the situation is on standby, with the Rossoneri hoping to re-open talks regarding an extension in the near future.

Imaginably, the wishes of Igli Tare and Allegri would be a start to the conversations, a reminder of the goalkeeper’s importance to the club. However, after the Diavolo wasted the first opportunity for talks, there may be no interest in returning to the table.
It is a situation to watch, perhaps with hope.
