Moretto states Tonali ‘dreams’ of Milan return eventually: “Always left the door open”

In the past week, AC Milan fans have been sent into a craze by Sandro Tonali’s admission that he wants to return to Italy eventually.

There has been a lot said about Tonali and his future since he departed the club. However, this was always going to be the case; he didn’t really leave in the best way – with a move being pushed for by the club – and he still loves Milan.

That last part is a big motivation for the dream. After all, you don’t get called the son of the Rossoneri without some links, and the Italian is one of the club’s favourites. A world-class midfielder, Tonali’s return would spark something in the club, too, which is why the dream is there.

Tonali to Milan: Possible or not?

It seems, though, that it is not just a one-way street. Whilst an exit from Newcastle United is not likely soon, he wants to return to Italy eventually, and stated as much in a press conference.

That return could be to the Diavolo, to home, and Matteo Moretto has commented on the matter, as relayed by Radio Rossonera.

“Tonali’s comments have fueled the imagination of many fans, especially in Italy and especially at AC Milan: he’s always left the door open to his return to the Rossoneri. I want to tell you the most likely scenario right now, considering it’s mid-October.

“At the moment, it’s practically impossible to imagine Tonali leaving Newcastle in January; we’ll discuss it again in June: the interested clubs will have to work on it for next year.

“Since January 2025, the team that has worked most intensively on the matter is Juventus, Cristiano Giuntoli’s team: there have been contacts, meetings, and discussions. Juve has attempted to delve deeper into the situation, especially through the player’s entourage.

“To date, the team most closely monitored remains Juventus, along with the many foreign teams in the Premier League and beyond.”
