Moretto: Why Milan are watching on intently as Lazio target Jan-Carlo Simic

Jan-Carlo Simic could end up back in Serie A as soon as the January transfer window, and AC Milan have a vested interest.

Simic joined Milan in the summer of 2022 from VfB Stuttgart in Germany and it was clear at the time that it was an impressive coup. He would captain the Primavera side initially, before getting some call-ups for the senior side.

The 19-year-old made his first first team appearance in December 2023 and not only that, he scored against Monza off the bench, something he has called a dream moment since departing the club. He left for Anderlecht, believing he was ready for more regular starts.

Lazio want Simic: Milan watch on

Matteo Moretto spoke in a video posted on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel and he commented on Simic’s future potentially being back in Italy, and why that matters to Milan.

“Lazio is already working on the January transfer window, has already had contact and has even submitted an offer for Jan-Carlo Simic, the former Milan defender who now plays for Anderlecht. His contract expires in 2029 and last January he was sought after by Galatasaray,” he said (via MilanNews).

“Lazio has continued contact in recent months and for this reason we expect the Biancocelesti to make a move in the coming weeks to secure Simic. Lazio are very interested in him. The player moved from Milan to Anderlecht, and his contract includes a 20% interest in the future resale to the Rossoneri.

“The Belgians are asking for €12m, and Lazio wants to get as close as possible to this figure to secure Simic for the January transfer window.”
