Myles Lewis-Skelly joins Man Utd's three-man transfer shortlist as Arsenal prioritise sales

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Arsenal youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly

Myles Lewis-Skelly has reportedly been added to Manchester United's transfer shortlist for the summer. The Arsenal youth graduate rose to stardom last season when becoming the starting figure in the side’s left-back role.

However, his minutes have diminished considerably since the summer arrival of Piero Hincapie on loan from Bayer Leverkusen and Riccardo Calafiori's regular availability. Hincapie’s loan is due to be made permanent in the summer, football.london understands.

Sky Sports have now reported that, along with Nathaniel Brown of Frankfurt and Lewis Hall of Newcastle United, Lewis-Skelly is a player admired by the Red Devils. football.london revealed earlier this month that many top clubs in Europe are monitoring the situations of both Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri.

Nwaneri is currently on loan in France with Marseille. The 18-year-old, like his fellow youth graduate Lewis-Skelly, saw a pathway to regular game time limited. At United, the pathway is still congested but clearer at left back with Patrick Dorgu, both suffering injury problems and also used in a more advanced role.

Luke Shaw is entering the latter stages of his career, and he has also dealt with persistent fitness issues. Tyrell Malacia looks on his way out of the club in the not-so-distant future, while the club has invested in 18-year-old Diego Leon, who is yet to make his Premier League debut.

From an Arsenal perspective, Mikel Arteta has always spoken highly of Lewis-Skelly but has been honest about the reality of the performances of both Hincapie and Calafiori.

Speaking earlier this month, he said, "Every season is different. He had very good moments in this season. He had other moments when he hasn't played in that much.

"So, there are various reasons. Sometimes, as well, the good form of your teammates. There's a lot of factors that contribute to that. But he's doing well."

football.london understands that sales are a priority for the club this summer with only a select number of players in the squad considered truly “unsellable”. Should the Gunners receive what they deem an offer too good to refuse for one of their players, it will be very difficult to turn it down.

Lewis-Skelly is certainly believed to be one the potential players who could move on should the interest materialise into something more formal from an interested club, even one in the Premier League such as Manchester United. Their rivals, Manchester City, have seen several young players like Cole Palmer and James McAtee move on while continuing to win major trophies, and it may be something Arsenal supporters also become more familiar with during life at the top level.
