AC Milan Women clinched a massive win against Napoli earlier this afternoon, putting two goals past the home side and going level on points in the standings.
After a frustrating 2-2 draw against Sassuolo before the break, squandering a two-goal lead, Milan Women were back in action this afternoon. You could see straight away that they were out for revenge, keen on proving themselves against a strong team.
Indeed, the Rossonere created the first dangerous chance of the game in the 23rd minute, as Thea Kyvåg found Evelyn Ijeh in the box. The Swede headed the ball towards goal but ended up hitting the crossbar, coming very close to giving Milan the lead.
Napoli then improved their game a little bit, which made the remainder of the first half quite even, and the scores remained 0-0 as the referee blew for the half-time break. Still, the display in the first 45 minutes was promising.
20 minutes into the second half, it was the Rossonere veteran Christy Grimshaw who broke the deadlock. The substitute and summer signing Soo-Jeong Park set up the goal, while the left-footed finish was composed.
In the 76th minute, another Milan substitute Angelica Soffia was sent off for DOGSO (denial of a clear goalscoring opportunity), but the decision was changed by VAR. And so, instead of having to fight with ten players, Milan Women were able to extend the lead in the 94th minute.
Park was back at it again with the assist, but this time it was Karen Appiah who provided the finish. As a result of the win, Milan are now level on points (13) with Napoli and Juventus, sitting in second place thanks to goal difference (for now).
