‘Never been seen before’ – Costacurta in awe of Milan signings after Napoli win

This summer, AC Milan underwent a bit of a makeover, and the win against Napoli proves that it has been worthwhile.

There is a weird feeling growing around Milan. After last season, there was a lot of pessimism surrounding the club, whilst toxicity was on the increase. Through the summer, that was also felt on occasion.

Several different viewpoints on the signings were given, with some questioning the choices made by the management. For example, the decision not to sign a ‘proper’ number nine, like Massimiliano Allegri had requested.

Whilst these doubts and questions may still be present, there is less worry, certainly. Instead, that weird feeling growing is optimism, and hope, something that has not been felt by many Milanisti in some time…

Costacurta’s praise

The reason why is a simple one. Allegri’s team do not look like a team without. Even with 10 men, they fought and beat the reigning champions of Italy. Most notably, it was their summer signings that got them over the line, as Billy Costacurta told Sky Calcio Club, via MilanPress.

“I think a lot of leadership has arrived, something that has never been seen before. We’re talking about two international-level players. Then there’s a team, all 11 of them running. I hate to say it, but this is a team that runs after the opponent. Everyone runs.

“Gimenez constantly causes trouble, not only by calling for depth, but also by helping his teammates. It’s a team that moves well with 11 men. That must be said too. Last year’s leaders have changed this year, in my opinion, and two of them have arrived with slightly better leadership.”
