It has been a challenging process, but AC Milan and Inter have got a deal with the Milan City Council to purchase San Siro and the land around it.
A new stadium has been on the cards for years now, but Milan and Inter have only just got it over the line. Even then, though, we cannot get overly excited, with a complaints process to proceed with. With that said, it should not affect anything.
So, the clubs have agreed to work with the internationally recognised architecture firms Foster + Partners and MANICA – led by Lord Norman Foster and David Manica – to build the new stadium, with plans expected in the next 12 months.
Foster & Manica’s statement
Whilst the work may have already begun, there has been little said, barring the confirmation. However, yesterday, a meeting took place, as Calciomercato.com write.
President Paolo Scaroni represented the Rossoneri, whilst Katherine Ralph of the Oaktree fund and Beppe Marotta represented Inter. In that summit, representatives of Foster and Manica were also present, as well as Mayor Beppe Sala.
Following the meeting, the designers released a statement, ‘certifying the awarding of the project’, as the report relays.
“We are grateful to the Mayor for his hospitality and the time he dedicated to us. While we wait for the process to be finalised, it was an opportunity to share the spirit and ambition that inspire the project.

“We are indeed grateful to Oaktree and RedBird for entrusting Foster + Partners and MANICA with the opportunity to design the new stadium for Inter and AC Milan, and we are honoured.
“This project represents not only a significant investment in the future of sport, but also a commitment to the city of Milan and its rich cultural, architectural, and sporting heritage.”
