AC Milan avoided any surprises in the Coppa Italia, beating Lecce 3-0 at San Siro on Tuesday night to secure a place in the last 16.

After an early red card was shown to Jamil Siebert, Santiago Gimenez opened the scoring then goals from Christopher Nkunku and Christian Pulisic in the second half capped off a convincing performance.

Total domination

The numbers speak for themselves in this one, with Milan having over three-quarters of the ball, as well as 4.33 Expected Goals, nine big chances, 24 total shots to 2 and 10 shots on target to 1. You would have to go back a long time to find a game with 12 corners for the Rossoneri too.

Positive streaks

Milan will participate in the Coppa Italia round of 16 for the 36th consecutive season. Since the 1990-91 season, the Rossoneri have always been involved in this stage of the competition, making them one of the two teams present in this round in each edition during the period.

Considering all competitions, Milan have achieved five consecutive victories against Lecce for the first time in their history.

Across all competitions (since 1929-30), considering teams faced at least 40 times, only against Palermo (48% – 34/71) do AC Milan have a higher clean sheet percentage than against Lecce (47% – 22/47).

The Diavolo have also kept a clean sheet in two consecutive Coppa Italia matches for the first time since February-March 2022 (vs. Lazio and Inter in that case).7-

Bartesaghi bright

At 19 years and 268 days old, Davide Bartesaghi became the youngest Milan player to provide an assist in the Coppa Italia since Stephan El Shaarawy in January 2012 (vs. Lazio at 19 years and 91 days).

Not only that, but his numbers were very impressive: 3 chances created, 90% of his passes completed and 5 duels won in the 90 minutes played. Pervis Estupinan perhaps does have a reliable deputy after all.

More individual acclaim

Among midfielders in the top five European leagues – considering all competitions – this season, only Michael Olise (seven) has scored more goals than Christian Pulisic (five).

Since the beginning of the 2023-24 season, only Lautaro Martinez (59) has been directly involved in more goals across all competitions than Pulisic (58 – 37 goals, 21 assists) among Serie A players.

Five of the seven goals scored in all competitions by Santiago Gimenez for Milan have come in home matches, including the last three in a row.

Christopher Nkunku scored his 100th career goal across all competitions: 11 with PSG, 70 with Leipzig, 18 with Chelsea, and one with Milan.
