Christopher Nkunku got his first AC Milan goal on his first start in the cup win over Lecce, and was delighted to get the ball rolling.
Milan took care of business rather comprehensively in the end, beating 10-man Lecce by three goals to nil, to book a spot in the last-16 of the Coppa Italia where Lazio await. Santiago Gimenez and Christian Pulisic scored either side of a goal for Nkunku, his first since arriving.
The Frenchman had blazed a good chance over minutes prior, but more than made up for it in the 51st minute with his first Rossoneri goal. A corner was taken short to Saelemaekers, who curled a cross to the far stick where Nkunku was waiting to scissor kick into the back of the net.
‘Felt very comfortable’
Nkunku was interviewed by Milan TV and TeleLombardia after the game and he spoke about scoring his first goal at San Siro but also about how he has settled in at the club generally after his summer move.
“I’m very happy. It was my debut with the team, and it was an important match because we needed to win to advance to the next round. It was a great match, I think for the whole team, and personally, I scored my first goal. We won and I scored, so it’s a double joy,” he said.
“It was a great moment that I wasn’t expecting, I was very happy. Since I arrived, I’ve felt very comfortable here, with everyone, the staff, all the players, and I saw that everyone was happy for me, so I was too.”
“It was a good match today from everyone, a good performance scoring three goals and conceding none. We’re happy to have progressed to the next round. I feel good. I want to play even more. I’m working to feel even better.”
“Am I ready to start? That’s a question for the manager, not for me. But I’m ready to play whatever is needed.”
