Christopher Nkunku has insisted that it was the right move for his career to join AC Milan, and also shed some light on how he likes to play.
Milan have been linked with countless forwards during the summer window, but the links with Nkunku came about very quickly, as did the acceleration towards the completion of a deal that will be worth over €30m.
Earlier in the week, Fabrizio Romano gave the deal the ‘here we go’ stamp, stating that a deal has been ‘verbally agreed’ between the clubs. The documents are set to be prepared today, and the Rossoneri will pay €35m plus bonuses.
Yesterday, the signing was made official by the club and it was also confirmed that the Frenchman has put pen to paper on a long-term deal.
Nkunku speaks to Milan TV
Nkunku has given his first interview to Milan TV after being officially unveiled as a new signing, and his comments are via MilanNews.
Christopher, welcome to Milan. What was your first reaction when you found out you were coming to Milan?
“I was overjoyed. I’m very excited to be here. I was convinced by the project from the first moment, I’m very happy to be here.”
Fans may not know you well enough: what’s your playing style? What are your characteristics?
“My playing style is very technical. I like to play with my teammates and act as a link. I play in an attacking position and try to provide assists or goals for the team. I always think about the team. I like to fight for it, give it my all, so we can all play our best together.”

What’s your favourite position on the pitch?
“I like playing near the striker or even as a striker. I like to play with the freedom to attack. Moving in space, interacting with my attacking teammates, it’s what I do best.”
How does it feel to join Milan?
“I’m proud. I feel very proud. I’ve gained valuable experience in England and Germany. I’m ready to discover a new country, a new league, and I can’t wait to start this season.”
Why did you choose number 18?
“I’ve always liked this number; I’ve worn it in the past. Then it became even more special for personal reasons, events that strengthened this bond.”
Have you spoken to Maignan, Fofana, or a former player like Giroud? Did they give you any advice?
“I have an excellent relationship with Mike Maignan. We’ve talked about many things, very positively about the club. Our personalities are similar. He immediately convinced me with what he told me.”
How does it feel to enter a dressing room like Milan’s?
“It’s great. We know the club’s ambitions. We have to win, which is why great players come here. I’ve already played against Luka, but not with Rafa. I’m very happy to play alongside them. I hope to get along well with them on the pitch for the good of the team.”
What are your personal goals for the season?
“I don’t have any personal goals because I don’t want to limit myself. I always try to improve day after day. This is my mentality; we’ll see how it all goes at the end of the season.”
Have you already imagined playing at San Siro?
“Of course I have. I already played there against France when we faced Italy. I immediately saw that it’s a beautiful stadium. Very big. I’m very happy to call it home.”
What’s your message to the fans?
“My message is: I’m very happy to be here, I’ll give everything for this club and to make the fans happy. These fans and this stadium make Milan legendary.”
