Christopher Nkunku has admitted that he spoke to Thiago Silva about joining AC Milan, and that Zlatan Ibrahimovic told him something when he arrived.

In the final days of the transfer window, Milan acquired Christopher Nkunku from Chelsea for around €37m plus bonuses, making the Frenchman the most expensive acquisition of the American era and one of the most expensive in the club’s history.

The attacking midfielder gave an interview to DAZN in which he introduced himself and discussed the reasons that led him to choose the Rossoneri. In it, he revealed a bit of the background on some of the conversations he had about the club.

What’s your first memory of Milan?

“When it comes to players, I’d say Kaká, Ronaldinho, and even Ibrahimovic. I played with him at PSG, just as I played at PSG and Chelsea with Thiago Silva. I spoke to Thiago, and he was happy for me to come to Milan.”

What did you learn from Ibra as a player? Have you talked to him recently?

“It’s about having more energy and the desire to win to beat your opponent. Not to win, but to beat him. His career was based on his personality, that’s clear. He taught me to be demanding in every training session and every match: that’s the mentality for success.”

Nkunku follows the likes of Fikayo Tomori, Olivier Giroud, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Christian Pulisic in swapping Stamford Bridge for San Siro, and we analysed what fans can expect from the newest attacking addition.
