Bayern Munich seemed to be the destination if Rafael Leao was going to leave AC Milan this summer. However, it seems there were never any advancements.
It seemed at one point like Milan were set to lose Theo Hernandez, Rafael Leao and Mike Maignan. Now, it seems like only Theo will depart. Of the trio, he was always the most likely to leave, whilst the Portuguese was most likely to stay.
The reasoning for this falls under two categories: the will of the Rossoneri then the player. For the club, it would take a ridiculous sum for him to leave, whilst the winger was not actively pursuing an exit.
No progress
It was always just a case of whispers with Leao, with the most danger coming in the form of a cash + player ‘offer’, and as much has been admitted by the honorary Bayern Munich president, Uli Hoeneß. He spoke to BR24Sport, and his words have been relayed by Lasha Kokiashvili on X.
“No, no, no – he [Leao] never was a topic for us. Max Eberl told me he held talks, but they weren’t fruitful.”
