No ticket revenue or home advantage: 2024-25 haunts Milan’s Coppa Italia campaign

AC Milan will be up against Lazio in the next round of the Coppa Italia, i.e. the Round of 16, but for the first time in a long while they have to play it away from home.

The disaster that was the 2024-25 season has had many effects on Milan. Both positive and negative ones, you could argue, with the Massimiliano Allegri revolution putting the Rossoneri back on track. That said, the Coppa Italia qualifiers didn’t exactly help.

In addition to the qualifiers, the fact that Milan aren’t seeded in the 2025-26 Coppa Italia means they will have to play the Round of 16 away from home. As such, they will make the trip to Stadio Olimpico for the game against Lazio on December 4.

This makes the game a lot tougher on paper, without a doubt, while the Rossoneri also won’t collect any revenue from the ticket sales. The same goes for the quarter-finals if they were to make it through (Bologna or Parma away if so), though it changes in the semi-final given it’s two-legged.

Interestingly, Milan will also face Lazio a few days before the Coppa Italia clash, more specifically in the 13th round. This will be played at San Siro, though, so we won’t be looking at an extended stay in the capital of Italy.
