Galatasaray forward Noa Lang avoided finger amputation after suffering a serious injury during the Champions League clash at Anfield, with the Turkish club releasing an official update

Galatasaray forward Noa Lang narrowly escaped having his finger amputated following a severe injury sustained against Liverpool.

Lang was transported off on a stretcher after colliding with the advertising hoardings in the dying moments of his side's 4-0 Champions League thrashing at Anfield on Wednesday.

The attacker required oxygen before being stretchered from the pitch and subsequently underwent surgery at Whiston Hospital prior to his return to Turkey. And in an update, Galatasaray club doctor Yener Ince disclosed: "I want to talk about the condition of our two players who were injured in the Champions League Round of 16 match against Liverpool.

"Our player Noa Lang has suffered a serious injury to the first finger of his right hand. I want to clarify that there is no complete amputation; however, the injury is significant. Because this area needed urgent repair, he underwent a successful operation in Liverpool as quickly as possible, without being brought to Istanbul.

"Currently, there appear to be no problems, but the Galatasaray medical team is monitoring him. We are in close contact with the Dutch national team's medical staff, with whom we have had good communication for a long time.

"Lang will not play in the first match for the Dutch national team, and after further assessments, if conditions allow, we plan for him to return to the field in the second match. We aim for Noa Lang to return to the pitch as soon as possible with a special training program."

Galatasaray has lodged a formal complaint with UEFA and is weighing up legal action seeking damages following Lang's horrific injury.

The club's general secretary, Eray Yazgan, revealed to Turkish outlet HTSport last week: "After the match, we lodged a complaint with UEFA representatives regarding the matter. They conducted their investigation.

"UEFA will evaluate the issue. We are consulting with lawyers. We will submit our compensation claim to UEFA. We will request that our grievances regarding salaries be addressed.

"If our request is not met, a lawsuit may be filed. Our priority is the health of our players."

In the aftermath of the fixture, Liverpool and UEFA representatives were seen examining the advertising board where the collision took place.

Lang had entered the fray as a half-time replacement for Victor Osimhen after the Nigerian forward had injured his wrist in an earlier challenge.

In the same update, Dr. Ince stated: "Another of our players, Victor Osimhen, underwent a successful operation today. His recovery will be monitored daily, and our medical team will do everything necessary to ensure his return to the pitch as soon as possible.

"Updates will be shared with the public by our club throughout the process."
