Harrowing footage shows the moment Galatasaray star Noa Lang was rushed to the hospital after sustaining a freak injury during Wednesday's clash at Anfield.

With Liverpool commanding a 4-0 lead in the 76th minute of The Reds' dominant victory, Lang was chasing the ball near the touchline when he spun around and drove his hand into an advertising board along the Anfield Road end. Blood poured from a deep gash near the top of his thumb, sending the 26-year-old crashing to the ground and screaming in pain.

Upon being carried off the pitch, Lang was loaded onto a stretcher and rolled into the back of an ambulance heading to a local hospital. While making his way down a hallway packed with members of the media, he was wrapped in a white blanket and surrounded by team officials, as NOW TV Turkiye reported part of his finger was 'detached'.

Play was immediately halted as medical personnel rushed to treat Lang’s wound.

Sky Sports News reporter Vinny O'Connor noted that the Dutchman — who had started the Champions League second-leg tie on the bench before coming in shortly after the break — appeared a "little groggy" as the Galatasaray medical team worked to guide him along the touchline.

Players from both sides swiftly expressed concern for Lang, as well as an individual who was seated directly behind the advertising boards.

Watching the incident unfold from the broadcast booth, TNT Sports commentator Ally McCoist remarked: "I could tell there was a significant problem because one of the girls behind there, I'm not sure if she's a photographer but you could see her face, the way she reacted."

After several tense minutes, Lang was ultimately placed on a folding stretcher when it became evident he was in far too much pain to leave the field on his own.

As the left winger was carried off the field with a trainer applying pressure on his thumb to stop the bleeding, fans packed into Anfield's stands rose to their feet and delivered a heartfelt standing ovation.

Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk confirmed the severity of the situation following the final whistle. “Noa Lang has a very serious injury on his finger,” he said. "He is going to the hospital.

"Important issue he has with his finger. They have brought him there. If there is an operation, they will do it here."

According to Turkish reporter Mustafa Mandev, Lang sustained a fracture in his finger and is slated to undergo surgery. It remains unclear as of writing what the recovery timeline may look like.

During a post-match press conference, Liverpool star Jeremie Frimpong offered a worrying update on Lang's condition. "I'm not sure what's going on, because his finger is covered," he said, per Voetbal International.

"Some said a piece of the tip of his thumb is missing. But in any case, he is really in pain. He was in a lot of pain."
