Noni Madueke takes to social media after Arsenal injury scare and Mikel Arteta update

After Arsenal booked their place in the Champions League semi-final, many supporters became worried about Noni Madueke's apparent injury in the clash

Noni Madueke paid tribute to the tifo Arsenal fans unveiled during their Champions League draw with Sporting Cp at the Emirates Stadium. Considering the England international limped off during the clash with the Portuguese side, many Gunners supporters may have checked his Instagram story to see if he had an update.

Instead, they would have seen the former Chelsea star pay tribute to the home supporters in north London, who unveiled a giant tifo banner with Madueke, Declan Rice, Leandro Trossard, Jurrien Timber and Martin Odegaard on there. Madueke was taken off in the 64th minute and replaced by 16-year-old Max Dowman after requiring on-field attention from Arsenal medics.

He was able to get back to his feet and walk off the pitch, but it would have been a nervous sight for Arsenal fans. Gunners' manager Mikel Arteta provided a brief update on Madueke after the game, but insisted more tests will need to be carried out.

When asked about the wide forward, Arteta said: "I don't know, it was something in his knee so we had to take him off."

Losing Madueke to injury, on the eve of this weekend's pivotal clash with Manchester City, would be agony for the Arsenal manager. Bukayo Saka has not featured since before the international break and Madueke has been occupying the wing in his stead.

Teenager Dowman was introduced onto the pitch to replace Madueke, suggesting there is a slim possibility he may start against City, if both England international are still injured. For Arteta, that is a matter he will think about for this weekend.

After the tense 0-0 draw which sent the Gunners into the last four of the Champions League as a result of the 1-0 aggregate lead they amassed, Arteta only wanted to focus on the positives from the evening.

The Spaniard said: "A lot of work. Big gratitude to the players. In the last 15, 20 minutes, we controlled the game really well.

"We controlled the transitions very good. It's a great night. I'm very happy for all of our people. Yes, it was always going to be [a difficult game]. We had moments in the first half where we probably should have scored.

"There are moments with the ball where we have to improve a lot, to have more control, dominance, and finish much more actions. Our behaviours, attributes, efforts - the team was outstanding and that's what takes you through.

"It comes down to making the last step. We are making steps that haven't been done for 140 years so the players deserve credit. What I love is the ownership the players took after the defeat here against Bournemouth.

"They said things face-to-face and they acted on it. In the dressing room you can say beautiful things, but you need to act on it."
