‘Not considering a return’ – Moretto shuts down Thiago Silva to Milan rumours

AC Milan have been linked with a move for Thiago Silva recently. However, the Brazilian defender will not be coming back, it seems.

In the summer, Milan compromised on the recent deals that they had preferred. Whilst young players with high ceilings arrived, older players with quality also arrived. Luka Modric and Adrien Rabiot, to be specific.

Since then, there have been several links to others of the same ilk. Bernardo Silva, Robert Lewandowski and now Thiago Silva. The Brazilian has been linked with a return, and he would certainly bring experience to a backline that lacks it.

However, it seems that the move is more of a fantasy than a fiction. A few have suggested that the move may actually not be on the cards, and Matteo Moretto confirmed as much today, via Radio Rossonera.

“There’s been a lot of talk in recent days about the possibility of AC Milan strengthening their defence with an experienced player like Thiago Silva, who currently plays for Fluminense in Brazil. Everyone knows Thiago’s past and his very close ties to AC Milan.

“We understand that at this time, Milan are not considering a return for the Brazilian defender. Silva’s contract expires in June 2026, and if Milan wanted to sign him in January, they would have to pay compensation.

“However, as of today, neither Milan are considering this option, nor do the Brazilian club want to part with the player in January.

“Milan certainly still has to go into specifics regarding the names for the January transfer window because they want to wait a bit longer before actually understanding where to strengthen their squad.

“The attack could certainly be a key area, but to arrive at a concrete name, I ask for patience because we need to fully understand the club’s strategies, which I believe will become clear at the end of this month and the beginning of December.

Given the need for long-term defensive improvements, the move would probably not be worth it in the long term…
