David Odogu has spoken about his emotions after completing a move to AC Milan, including how quickly everything materialised.
Odogu was Milan’s tenth and final signing of the 2025-26 summer transfer window. The 19-year-old centre-back arrived rather unexpectedly from Wolfsburg and signed a four-year contract with the option of an additional year.
He landed in Milan on Monday afternoon, underwent a medical and signed the contract within the space of a few hours. On Tuesday, he was on the pitch at Milanello to meet with Coach Allegri and the rest of the squad.
As mentioned, his acquisition was somewhat of a shock given that the Rossoneri went into deadline day seemingly close to signing Joe Gomez from Liverpool. In the end, they welcome a name with a bright future.
‘An incredible feeling’
Odogu spoke in his first interview with Milan TV which was published late last night, and his comments were relayed by MilanNews.
There is joy in your eyes, how are you feeling?
“It’s an incredible feeling: a big day for me and my family. I’m so grateful to be able to sign for such an important club and I want to thank God, without whom none of this would have been possible. I’m truly happy, proud, and grateful to be part of this team.”

Can you tell us how you reacted to the news?
“It all happened so quickly, on the last day. It was incredible. I still can’t believe what’s happened in the last 24 hours; so much has happened. It’s a wonderful feeling. I’m just grateful to be here and happy.”
How does it feel to walk into a dressing room with so many champions?
“Now I realise I’m at Milan and I can play with players like Modric, for example. A year ago, I would never have imagined I’d be on the same team as him.
“I’ll take him as an example, given that we’re young. Overall, the team is full of great players, and I can’t wait to learn from them, because I’m very young and I want to improve. I have the best opportunity to do so at this club.”
How would you describe yourself on the pitch?
“I want to keep a clean sheet and protect our goal. I’m aggressive in one-on-one duels, and I’m strong in individual and team defence. I want to improve physically and become more confident on the ball, improving my strength, aerial play, and defensive work.”
Do you have an idol or role model?
“Milan defenders in the past have always been legends like Nesta, Maldini, and Baresi. I’ve always looked up to the best in my position, but I don’t have a specific idol, but right now I like Van Dijk.”
What comes to mind when you look at the Milan shirt with your name and number 27?
“I really like it with that number. There’s no particular reason for the number, but I think it’s nice. On my way here, I checked which numbers were available and which ones would look good. I think I made a good choice. I like the shirt, how it’s made, and I like the number.”
What will it be like to play at San Siro?
“It’ll be incredible. I haven’t been there yet, but I’ll go soon. I’ve seen so many games on TV and I know the stadium’s history, the great matches that have been played there, like the derbies.
“It’s incredible to imagine playing there, but it’s also a huge responsibility. I want to work hard, grow, and become a great player, playing so many games in that stadium.”
A message for Milan fans…
“Hello Milan fans, I’m David Odogu and I’m really proud and happy to be here. I can’t wait to see you at San Siro. We want to win, and I’ll give everything for myself and this shirt. Ciao, Forza Milan!”
