This afternoon, AC Milan have announced that Franco Baresi has undergone successful surgery on a pulmonary nodule.
Few players are as recognised as Franco Baresi in Italian football, let alone in a Milanese sphere. However, that has continued since the defender hung up his boots after 532 for the Rossoneri. Now, he sits in the club’s management.
Whilst not involved with the mercato or anything on that level, the Italian is the Honorary Vice President for the club, meaning that there is some Rossoneri representation in the boardroom.
Club statement
Today, on the club’s website, a statement was posted about a recent health issue which the legend has experienced.
“AC Milan announces that, following routine medical checks, our Honorary Vice President Franco Baresi was found to have a pulmonary nodule. It was decided that the best course of action was to remove it with a minimally invasive surgical procedure. The operation went well, and his recovery has been free of complications. Franco has since been assessed by an oncology specialist, who recommended a consolidative course of immunotherapy.”
Everyone at the club also wished Baresi well, wishing for a speedy recovery and offering their best wishes, which we can only echo.

He has also posted a message for everyone, which can be found later in the club’s statement.
“Dear fans, I just want to let you know that it will take me a little time to get back to full strength. Thank you to AC Milan and to all of you for your support. A big hug, with affection.”
