Malick Thiaw has been sold from AC Milan to Newcastle United, both clubs have now officially confirmed.

News of Newcastle’s renewed interest in signing Thiaw had been brewing for days, then things accelerated over the weekend. They are believed to have had a first bid rejected and then came back with an offer worth €40m, which Milan decided to accept and the player was happy to move.

Thiaw headed to England earlier in the week to undergo a medical and sign his contract with the Magpies, bringing an end to a three-year spell with the Rossoneri.

Newcastle meanwhile write: “Newcastle United can confirm the signing of defender Malick Thiaw on a long-term deal from Italian side AC Milan. Malick will wear shirt number 12 for Newcastle United this season.”

The 24-year-old centre-back ended up making 85 appearances in all competitions in his three season with Milan and he actually played against Newcastle United in the Champions League. His only goal came in that competition; the opener in a 3-1 victory away at Real Madrid last season.
