AC Milan have confirmed that Alvaro Morata has joined Como on an initial loan deal which should become a permanent move.
After weeks of speculation about whether he would be allowed to join his compatriot Cesc Fabregas, Galatasaray confirmed the striker’s loan had officially been terminated. Morata actually fired a parting shot at the Turkish club, accusing them of breaking promises.
A statement on Milan’s official website reads: “AC Milan announces the early termination of Álvaro Morata’s loan spell at Galatasaray SK. The player will now join Como 1907 on loan, with an obligation to make the move permanent should certain conditions be met. The Club wishes Álvaro all the best in both his personal and professional endeavours.”
Meanwhile, Como write: “Como 1907 announces the arrival, on loan with an obligation to buy, of Álvaro Morata. A forward shaped by some of the world’s greatest teams, he arrives with a career that spans Real Madrid, Juventus, Chelsea, Atlético Madrid, AC Milan and the Spanish national side.”
The reaction
Cesc Fàbregas: “I’ve known Álvaro for many years and I’ve always admired the way he plays and the way he carries himself. He’s an intelligent striker who has delivered in the biggest moments and a teammate who lifts everyone around him. We’re so happy to have him here at Como.”
Morata: ‘I’m really happy to have arrived in Como. Last year, playing against them, I was able to appreciate the team and the project; you can see that there is a lot of ambition. I promise the fans and the club that I will give 200% in every training session and every match. I can’t wait to wear this shirt.’
Como are welcoming a striker that has won two Champions League titles, one UEFA Super Cup, one FIFA Club World Cup, two Serie A titles, two La Liga titles and one Turkish Süper Lig title at his various clubs.
He has also won the Coppa Italia, FA Cup, Europa League and multiple domestic Super Cups. Morata has 86 caps and 37 goals for Spain, captaining them to lifting Euro 2024 and the 2023 Nations League.
