Daniele Chiffi has been appointed as the referee for AC Milan’s clash against Torino on Monday, as confirmed by AIA yesterday.
Since the league game against Lazio, due to the VAR controversy at the end, there has been a lot of talk about the officiating in Italy. Even though the decision went Milan’s way in the end, the fact that VAR called for an incorrect penalty against them has left them perplexed too.
In any case, the Coppa Italia encounter between the two teams didn’t include any real issues, with Marco Guida handling the game well. Hopefully, that will continue against Torino on Monday too, this time with Daniele Chiffi in charge as confirmed by AIA.
Only one defeat
Milan are actually the side that Chiffi has come across the most, officiating 14 of their games in his career. The Rossoneri’s record with the 40-year-old is also very positive with 10 wins (most recently vs. Napoli), 3 draws and just one defeat.

They have been handed two red cards by the referee (more on that later) as well as four penalties, so the overall feeling is positive. It should also be noted that Davide Ghersini will be in charge of VAR, not Aleandro Di Paolo who was the VAR referee against Lazio.
Having said the above, one of the aforementioned red cards was questionable. It was in Milan’s clash against Udinese last season that Tijjani Reijnders was sent off, following a supposed challenge on Sandi Lovric, deemed as a denial of a clear goalscoring opportunity.
The replays showed that there was more or less no contact. On top of that, in the same game, a red-card worthy stamp on Samuel Chukwueze was left unpunished.
