Official: Flamengo confirm signing of Emerson Royal from AC Milan on permanent deal

Late last night, Emerson Royal’s departure was confirmed, with the Brazilian not managing more than 12 months with AC Milan.

It is easier to pick out the few good moments with Emerson Royal than the bad; we’d be here a while. The full-back arrived with a negative reaction, and this followed through his limited Milan career, which could, and probably should, have ended a few months before now.

For those who don’t remember, a sale was lined up in the January mercato. However, the full-back was chosen to play in the Champions League against Girona, where he suffered a long-term injury, cancelling the deal.

Coming to this summer, then, a sale was always probable. However, there were rumblings of a few loan ideas. Nevertheless, the Diavolo have opted to cut ties with immediate impact and have sold him to Flamengo.

The deal was confirmed in the late hours of last night, and around €9 million has been made from the deal, with Milan recording a loss of €6m in less than 12 months. Talk about burning money quickly.

For a move that was never really wanted by the fans, it has ended how many would have imagined. A wake-up call, indeed.
