Matteo Marcenaro has been named by AIA as the head referee for Milan-Bologna. It will be his second game officiating the Rossoneri, which isn’t so strange when you consider his young age.
Milan need to build on their win against Lecce last time out and tomorrow, they will have the chance to do so. Bologna are the opponents and that means it will be a tough game, as Max Allegri pointed out, but at least it will be played at San Siro.
Rafael Leao will miss this one as well, which is a blow, but the new signing Christopher Nkunku should at least be on the bench. It’s also possible that we could see Adrien Rabiot from start, so it’s not all doom and gloom for the manager.
One game with Marcenaro
As announced by AIA earlier in the week, the 32-year-old Matteo Marcenaro will officiate the game, while Michael Fabbri will be in charge of VAR. While the latter has had quite a few games with Milan, it will only be Marcenaro’s second game with the team.
The first game took place a few years back, more specifically in the 2022-23 season, and it was the 0-0 draw against Empoli at San Siro. There wasn’t really anything controversial to note, as although Olivier Giroud had a late goal ruled out for handball, it was the correct decision.
Another interesting thing to note is that Koni De Winter played in Empoli’s backline in that game, doing a pretty good job at keeping Milan scoreless despite a plethora of chances.
