Ajax have officially confirmed the signing of Maximilian Ibrahimović on an initial loan deal from AC Milan.

The news emerged out of nowhere in the past few days, and it quickly went from talks between the two clubs to an agreement being reached. Ibrahimovic – the eldest son of Zlatan – was playing for Milan Futuro, with whom he had five goals and four assists this season so far.

On their website, Ajax confirm they have reached an agreement with Max Ibrahimović and Milan regarding a loan for the 19-year-old forward. The loan will be until the end of this season and it includes an option to buy for Ajax.

Ibrahimović joined Milan from Hammarby IF’s youth academy back in 2022, when Zlatan had just celebrated the Scudetto with the Rossoneri. After initially starting in the Primavera, his good performances got him a permanent promotion to the Futuro.

Ajax’s Director of Football Marijn Beuker shed some light on the decision to sign the teenager, who will follow in his father’s footsteps given that he also played for Ajax, albeit before ending up at Milan.

“We are very pleased with the arrival of Maximilian. He is a talented forward with a good sense of positioning in and around the penalty area, and he has strong goal-oriented finishing. He is skilful with his dribbling and, above all, has a great winner’s mentality and training attitude.”

“He will initially mainly get his playing minutes with Ajax U23 and will regularly move between Ajax U23 and the first team during the season, so that he can get used to the higher level and the intensity of Ajax 1. Maximilian is a player with a lot of potential, and we hope that in time he can become a permanent part of Ajax 1’s attack.”
