Official: Modric nominated for 2025 World XI award – the first Milan feature in four years

This afternoon, AC Milan and former Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric was named in the World XI shortlist for 2025.

Modric’s class is known, and any more awards are not needed to prove it. No awards are really needed, but the proof provided by things like a Ballon d’Or and the six Champions League titles, perhaps.

Modric among the elite

Last year, many suggested that the Croatian midfielder was slowing down, but he was still a large part of the Real Madrid midfield. A player with his class is not just rendered obsolete in a season, and this has been proven in the Rossoneri this season.

In fact, he is looking as good as he ever was in Serie A, with some even suggesting that he looks more like a 20-year-old than someone who has passed his 40th birthday. Today, as MilanNews relays, he was named as a nominee for the FIFPro World XI, a chance for the world’s players to vote for their ‘best team of the year’.

Perhaps it is a bit of a reach, but he is the first Rossoneri to be listed for the award since Gianluigi Donnarumma in 2021. Either way, if he were to find a place in the team, it would still be a first for the club since Andrea Pirlo made the squad in 2006.
