Luca Zufferli has been named the referee for AC Milan’s game against Lecce tomorrow, and with the Rossoneri, he has a perfectly even record so far.
Now more so than ever, referees are under scrutiny in Italy. Questionable on-field as well as VAR decisions at the start of the season set the tone for a very troublesome climate, with fans now turning every stone to put blame on the referees.
Of course, there have been incorrect decisions but the feeling is that the debate has been brought to ridiculous levels in recent weeks. Either way, the clubs are keeping an extra eye which referees get assigned to their games these days.

For the game between Milan and Lecce tomorrow, the 35-year-old Luca Zufferli will be the head referee. He’s not exactly the most experienced in Serie A, but he has impressed when given the chance.
He has officiated three Milan games before and his record with the Rossoneri is perfectly even: one win, one draw and one defeat. He has handed out one red card to them as well, which came in the first game and was given to Davide Bartesaghi.

Coincidentally, that was also against Lecce (3-0 win in September 2024) and the red card was deemed incorrect afterwards. The second game was against Pisa earlier this season, which ended 2-2 after a late equaliser by Zachary Athekame.
There was controversy involved then too, as Matteo Gabbia was brought to the ground before Pisa’s second goal. More so than Zufferli, however, this was something that VAR should have picked up.
The third clash, i.e. the defeat, was the Supercoppa Italiana semi-final against Napoli, when Milan failed to live up to their usual standards.
