Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has admitted that a big enough offer for Marc Guehi this month would mean the Eagles cashing in.

Guehi is out of contract in the summer and almost moved to Liverpool in September, only for the deal to break down at the very last moment when Crystal Palace couldn't find a replacement.

Now, Manchester City is said to be keen, alongside a host of European clubs who are sniffing around ahead of a free transfer move in the summer. Liverpool remains interested having come so close to snapping up the England ace only a few months ago.

Pep Guardiola played down the chances of Manchester City spending big yesterday, but Glasner says a substantial offer from the Etihad side — or elsewhere — could force Crystal Palace's hand.

"There’s the situation that the contract ends in the summer," Glasner said. "If somebody is coming, there will be a moment when the club says: ‘Now the financial issue is more important than the sport issue'.

"We have to do it and try to get the best. That’s why I’m always saying: ‘I don’t know.’ Because this is different.

"There will be a threshold where the club has to say [sell]... if the player says: ‘I want to leave’ and the money is above the threshold, it will happen.

"I'm not so naive not to know that if a massive offer comes from City and Marc wants to do it, it will happen."

While this is the clearest message that Glasner has sent regarding his captain, the Crystal Palace boss also softened his stance on the player leaving ahead of the window opening.

"Tomorrow starts the next crazy month in football," he said last week. "And I don't know, I've experienced so many different situations. The next 31 days will be everything is possible, like always, and everything I say today might be wrong in two days.

"And I think most of what I say today will be definitely wrong by the end of the transfer window, because I don't know, and that's why I don't really care about it, especially I don't want to talk about it in public.

"Everything I say today might be wrong. That's why the best thing is say nothing.

"You will ask me all these questions again and again and again. I need to find one answer. I will always tell you the same, as long as I don't know anything else. Because, believe me, if I knew something. I would tell you. So I don't know what's going on.

"I don't know what will happen with Marc. I don't know what will happen with new players, and I don't know what will happen with JP [Jean-Philippe Mateta], I don't know anything."

Liverpool.com says: Guehi moving to Anfield now would be ideal, but if not, then a summer move makes sense on a free. Crystal Palace would want a big fee this month and for the sake of six months, there is a question to be asked about what his value should be. It is unlikely that Liverpool would pay a huge sum for half a season when it might be able to wait.
