AC Milan hope to have three players available this week for the game against Cagliari, but it may be a race against time.

Another big game comes this week, with Milan hoping to get another three points in Serie A, this time against Cagliari on Friday evening. After a huge win this weekend, hopes are certainly high, but they must continue through a big run.

To do that, Massimiliano Allegri will hope to see a few first-team players return, whilst also considering the first appearance for Niclas Fullkrug, who will officially arrive for the first game of the January mercato.

Updates from Milanello

Peppe Di Stefano spoke to Sky Sport outside Milanello to offer an update about Rafael Leao and Matteo Gabbia, who have both been absent in recent games, and also the new German striker, who could push for a first start, as Radio Rossonera relays.

“Good news. Leao trained on the pitch today with the players who didn’t play yesterday or played only a few minutes against Verona. This means he’s slowly regaining his fitness ahead of the Cagliari match.

“I think the real big doubt about his participation will be resolved in the next few days. Milan will play on Friday evening, so training will follow today, followed by training in the morning on Tuesday and Wednesday, and then the departure on Thursday afternoon.

“Fullkrug is trying to get into top condition, but we’re told he arrived really enthusiastic and is having some excellent training sessions. The third piece of news is that Gabbia did individualised and recovery work today.

“Again, we’re waiting for the next few days because who knows, maybe he’ll be able to join us for the trip to Sardinia

Even if the trio makes the bench, it would be a big boost, certainly.
