AC Milan had to make do with another draw after dropping points to Genoa on Thursday, this time drawing 1-1 with Fiorentina.
Milan created at least three big opportunities to score in the first half, but Christian Pulisic failed to take any of them. Fiorentina then went 1-0 up in the second half as Pietro Comuzzo headed in a corner, and it came after a spell of pressure from the hosts.
Just as it looked like the unbeaten run was over, Christopher Nkunku popped up in the final minute to fire in a pass from fellow substitute Youssouf Fofana. The end result was a 1-1 draw, and Milan could go five points behind league-leaders Inter.
Purple rain
Fiorentina actually dominated when looking at the stat line. They had more possession, big chances, total shots, shots on target, corners and drew more yellow cards.
However, the Rossoneri did edge the Expected Goals column, of which the 1.80 will be almost entirely Pulisic’s missed chances, though he has been prolific this season in other games.
Hard to beat
Milan have recorded at most one defeat after 19 games in a single Serie A season (11W, 7D, 1L) only for the fourth time in the three-points-per-win era, after 1995-96, 2003-04, and 2004-05.
The Rossoneri are the team that has gained the most points (4) with goals scored in the last 5 minutes of play in this current league season.
Milan are unbeaten in 18 consecutive league games (11W, 7D) and the last time they did better in a single Serie A championship was in January-May 2004 with Carlo Ancelotti on the bench (19).
Chris back?
Christopher Nkunku has been involved in five goals in 13 games in Serie A (3G+2A), already the same number of goal contributions recorded in 27 league games with Chelsea last season (3G+2A).
He has scored three goals in his last two games after bagging a brace against Verona on December 28 before sitting out due to an ankle issue. Hopefully he has turned a corner.
