Former Chelsea midfielder Oscar may be compelled to hang up his boots after losing consciousness during training due to heart complications, according to Brazilian media reports.
The two-time Premier League winner's last appearance for Sao Paulo came in August against Corinthians, where he sustained an injury. Since then, he has only been named as a substitute twice.
Oscar, 34, is believed to have collapsed while using an exercise bike during Tuesday's training session and was immediately transported to the hospital. Reports in Brazil suggest the former Stamford Bridge star has been monitoring a cardiac condition for several months after abnormalities were detected during medical examinations following his injury.
Global Esporte claims that the hospital raised concerns with Sao Paulo at the time, but the midfielder was reportedly cleared to continue playing.
Sao Paulo's statement read: "During tests carried out on Tuesday morning (11), at SuperCT, as part of the preparation for the 2026 pre-season, athlete Oscar presented an incident with cardiological changes, being promptly attended to by the club's professionals and the medical team from Einstein Hospital Israelita, who were present at the site.
"The player was then taken to the hospital, where he is currently in stable condition and remains under observation for further tests to clarify the diagnosis.
"As per standard procedure and respecting the player's privacy, new information will be released as soon as there is an update from the medical team, in agreement with Oscar."
Oscar returned to his roots in Brazil when he inked a three-year contract with Sao Paulo, the club where he first made his mark before securing a move to Chelsea in 2012.
The switch happened in December of the previous year, and he was thrilled to be back "home" at the club where his journey began.
The midfielder's transfer to Stamford Bridge came on the heels of the London club's Champions League triumph, and he clinched the title under Jose Mourinho three years later.
His departure from London was marked by a surprising transfer to Shanghai Port in 2016.
This move drew criticism from then Blues manager Antonio Conte, during a period when the Chinese Super League was splashing out massive amounts for high-profile players.
Oscar had a lengthy stint with Shanghai Port, bagging the CSL title three times while also hoisting the Chinese FA Cup and Super Cup.
The Brazilian netted 77 goals and provided 141 assists in 248 appearances for the club. He hasn't played for Brazil since leaving Chelsea.
