Ossola discusses Primavera’s star, Milan’s pathway, coach Renna and 2025-26 targets

Milan Primavera star Lorenzo Ossola believes that club have provided an obvious pathway to senior football, and he is excited by the start to 2025-26.

The first Milan side to play over the weekend were the Primavera, and they recorded another victory on Saturday afternoon by beating Cremonese 1-0 away from home.

Ossola got the only goal and Giovanni Renna’s side rode their luck a bit, but won a third game out of six to climb to ninth in the league.

He spoke to Milan TV to reflect on what has been a positive start to the season overall with a new coach and a young group.

How is everyone feeling at the moment?

“It’s a great moment in my opinion, because we’re growing a lot and even the younger players are starting to step up, as is only right after moving up from the U17s to the Primavera, which is more complicated for many, but even the younger players are responding well.

“We’re happy because we’re becoming more and more of a group, more and more of a team. From this point of view, we’re growing a lot and I’m happy.”

You are now one of the older heads…

“In the past, I was the youngest player, and having help from someone older or more experienced than me helped me. For example, last year, Matteo Dutu helped me a lot in many situations.

“This year, I want to be a more experienced figure in the group to help those kids who are playing in their first year in the category.”

How do you feel about Milan’s pathway?

“I think Milan is developing a great project for both the Milan Primavera and Milan Futuro teams, as some of the kids are fortunate enough to play for both teams, and making their debut is a source of honour and pride for me.

“My entire family has always helped me with transportation between training sessions and games, even though it’s not very close to here, but they’ve always given me a hand. Especially my grandparents, who always call me after games to ask how things went and give me their assessment.”

Do you remember your first time at the youth complex?

“When I first came to Vismara, it seemed like a giant playground. Ever since I was little, my dream has been to come here, because I’ve been a Milan fan since I was born, and it’s a dream come true.”

How important is the Futuro team?

“Having the opportunity to compete in both a top-level Primavera championship and a tough and top league like the U23 one.

“In the sense that you learn certain things first, you’re directly in adult football, so certain things also from a physical standpoint, which maybe you can do here, but you can’t there. In my opinion, it’s a step closer to getting closer to senior football.”

You have climbed with the coach Giovanni Renna…

“I was lucky enough to have Mister Renna in the U17s, it was an important year for me because he gave me a great boost in terms of goals. Having him here in the Primavera gave me a great responsibility to demonstrate what I had demonstrated in the U17s, but also a sense of belonging, that’s it.”

Has he established any rules?

“One rule we rarely follow is headphones, especially the large ones. You can never wear them on the pitch, so either wear small headphones or don’t wear them at all, because they say you have to concentrate on the match.”

The team are in a good run of form…

“We’re coming off three games in which we haven’t dropped any points, so three positive results with two wins. We work during the week, every day, to be able to arrive at the match on the right foot, with the right attitude, with the right tactical ideas that the coach gives us. For the rest, on the pitch we try to have fun and express our potential to the fullest.”

What are the targets?

“This year, the goal in the Primavera league is definitely to have a great season. To improve individually and as a team, because we’re a strong group. After that, maybe make a few appearances for Milan Futuro, because that’s a huge step towards senior football.”

Next up for the Primavera is a game against fellow Lombardy side Monza on Saturday in what is the early 12:00 CEST kick-off, and we will have the full-time report as always.
