Sunderland seemed to be a likely destination for Santiago Gimenez, but it seems the Mexican may not be that close to an AC Milan exit.
Gimenez is one of the biggest focuses for Milan at the moment. The Mexican has not impressed so far, so he either leaves or the Rossoneri continue to try to unlock his best. It is a difficult situation to be in.
As he has spent the last few weeks sidelined, maybe there has been some time to plan the next few steps. However, it would take something pretty miraculous for him to turn things around.
Gimenez’s situation
Or would it? This morning, his agent suggested that the links away are not as advanced as they are being made out to be, and Fabrizio Romano has also suggested similar.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, he offered an update on his future and the involvement of Sunderland, who have reportedly been interested via MilanNews.
“There’s talk that Sunderland are interested in Santiago Gimenez and that there’s already been some contact. However, I’ve received denials. Sunderland has given me a firm no for AC Milan’s Mexican striker.
“The English club has other plans. We’ll see what happens in January for Gimenez, but as of today, there’s been no confirmation on Sunderland.”
