Paratici discusses failed Milan move after summer pursuit: “We were very close”

Fabio Paratici was not even a step away from joining AC Milan this year; it seemed like it was probably even closer than that. However, the move never happened.

The hiring of a sporting director was a tale. Igli Tare met with Gerry Cardinale and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in London. It seemed like he had the job, and then Giorgio Furlani took control of the situation, and what followed was a messy few weeks.

Paratici almost got the job, but the final signatures never arrived, and Milan continued to look. Tony D’Amico and Giovanni Sartori were both liked. However, Furlani eventually returned to Tare.

Paratici’s words

So far, the Tare era has been positive, and whilst the mercato still had a few talking points, most look at it positively. However, the hopes for him were certainly low, considering the lengths that the Rossoneri went to looking for someone else.

Today, Paratici spoke to Sky Sport about his failed move back to Italy, and MilanNews have relayed his words.

“We were very close. Then, if the marriage wasn’t completely concluded, I don’t know why. Diplomatic? No, I’m not, and I’m not getting any better at it. But I can’t stand there wondering why, after everything I’ve been through, if this influenced a club’s decisions.”
