Paul Merson and Chris Sutton are in total agreement about Liverpool’s trip to Wolves on Tuesday night, with the soccer pundits tipping Arne Slot’s men to continue their red-hot form.

The Reds have put together a four-game win streak, including a 5-2 win at Anfield on Saturday against relegation strugglers, West Ham. The three points pushed Liverpool into the Champions League places, leaving them three points behind top-four rivals Aston Villa and Manchester United.

Slot’s team will now play three consecutive road games, starting this week with back-to-back games at Wolves in the Premier League and FA Cup, before travelling to Turkey to play Galatasaray in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie. Heading into Tuesday’s game at Molineux, Liverpool have been universally backed by ex-soccer stars Merson and Sutton, who believe the Reds will run out 2-1 winners, continuing their push for a top-four finish.

Merson claimed in his Sportskeeda column that Wolves have turned a corner in their performances and pose a new threat not seen in the early stages of the 2025/26 season, when they were condemned to 20th place in the Premier League. The ex-Arsenal star also noted Liverpool’s fragilities - but still backed the Reds to run out narrow winners.

“Liverpool are fine going forward. But it is always hard for a team to find the balance between scoring a lot of goals and not conceding at the other end. When you try to score a lot of goals, you will become open at the back,” Merson wrote.

“West Ham will be kicking themselves about not getting something out of the Liverpool game. I think Liverpool will face a strong fight from other teams to finish in the top five. They should be able to win this game though.”

Sutton echoed similar in his BBC Sport column, noting the game will be closer than many think, largely due to Wolves’ uptick in form. “Liverpool have won their past three league games and are right in the race for the top four,” Sutton said.

“It feels like Arne Slot's side have turned a corner but Wolves have really picked up under Rob Edwards in recent weeks too.

“I am not sure about this one. Everyone else will go for a Liverpool win, and I am going to have to do the same - but it will be closer than you think.”

Slot and Co. will have to make do without Florian Wirtz, and it’s unclear how long the German international will be out of action. The No. 7 missed the wins over Nottingham Forest and West Ham.

“Not anything different than what I said after the game [on Saturday],” Slot said when asked about Wirtz at his pre-match press conference on Monday morning.

“The game tomorrow will probably come too soon and maybe the game at the weekend as well. Let’s see how that ends up. But we hope to have him back somewhere next week. Maybe earlier. Maybe a bit later. But that timescale.”

Addressing Liverpool’s busy week, Slot said: “It’s not unusual that we play three games in seven days for us. That’s probably the fourth or fifth time this season that we have to do this.

“Does it bring a challenge? Maybe for the second game a little bit more because then you know even better what to expect, but that I also like mainly.

“I also like [it] in the Champions League because the first time you play each other, mainly in the Champions League you don’t play each other that much so it’s a bit new but the second time you can prepare your team even better. Especially if the team you face does the same again.

“But now, being in the Premier League, we played them [Wolves] already once [and] you see a lot of games of them because they play against teams that we are facing as well.”
