Pedulla: Füllkrug stopgap then Vlahovic – Milan’s January and June plan for the attack

AC Milan are in need of a striker for the January window, but the one that arrives is unlikely to be the long-term number nine is seems.

Numerous sources have reported that Niclas Fullkrug was proposed to Milan given his struggles at West Ham. What has emerged since is that the management are seriously evaluating the possibility of signing him, given it would be a low-cost deal for a target man.

A short-term fix?

Looking at the recent numbers for the German, though, it is easy to see why he might not be considered the one to pin the future hopes of the attack on. He has scored just three times in 18 months at West Ham, and has missed long stretches due to physical issues.

According to Alfredo Pedulla for Football Italia, the signing of Füllkrug would mean that Milan ‘could postpone their search for the real new centre-forward until the summer’, more specifically targeting Juventus man Dusan Vlahovic.

The Serbian currently out with a serious muscle injury, but as recent rumours from Spain stated, the interest on Milan’s part after the summer links ‘never really died out’. Seeing as he will be out injured until at least March there will be no winter switch, but things remain very much alive for next June.

The Rossoneri hierarchy are hoping the great rapport between Max Allegri and Vlahovic ‘can swing his decision’, given that there will be strong competition to get the free agent.
