Mike Maignan’s future is the headline for AC Milan currently, and until an outcome is reached, it will remain this way.
The future of Maignan is one that will not be quietened anytime soon. Ultimately, when you have a situation like this one, it takes the headlines. Whilst it may not change the situation, Milan will hope that the reports get more positive, though they are the ones in control of that.
At present, it is a mixed bag, with the latest suggestions being that the Frenchman wants an €8 million a year salary – a figure almost double that which was agreed at the start of the year.
Maignan and Maignan only
Today, Alfredo Pedulla has offered an update on things in his column for Football Italia.
“Milan are stitching back together the rift from several months ago, when renewal talks collapsed due to some back-and-forth over figures. At that stage, the debate was tied to a dip in performance from the France international and Maignan’s camp didn’t take it well.
“As the goalkeeper has demonstrated in the first months of the season, there’s little to argue about regarding his quality.

“Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri is adopting the same strategy he used with Adrien Rabiot a few months back, when the Italian convinced the midfielder to move to San Siro from Marseille. As long as Milan have a chance to renew with Maignan, they will not delve deeper into discussions with possible alternatives.”
It is no surprise that the goalkeeper’s renewal is the priority, and whilst it is risky, not pursuing other options shows the level of this priority to Maignan, too. However, if it is unsuccessful, it leaves the Rossoneri in a really, really bad position.
The ball is in Mike’s court, and when it leaves that court will be important.
