Mike Maignan has just a year left on his AC Milan contract, and there is a very real chance that he could depart for nothing.
This summer, it seemed like Milan were going to lose Maignan; they even had a request from the Frenchman to allow a move to Chelsea. However, the two clubs could not agree on a fee, and the goalkeeper remained.
Though this could be part of a bigger idea, it seems. Rather than allowing Maignan to walk away, the Rossoneri hope to give him a new contract and extend his stay. In fact, the idea has already been passed to the shot-stopper.
Enjoy it
There is a big caveat, though, it relies on the Diavolo reaching the Champions League and looking like they can compete at a top level. So far, it is debatable whether we have seen that. Additionally, relations have to be salvaged.

The reasons probably stack against staying right now, and Carlo Pellegatti has reinforced those fears, as PianetaMilan shares.
“Yesterday, we had a chat with the AC Milan management. Nothing official, but they made it clear that we need to enjoy Maignan this year. I think a renewal will be very difficult. He was offended by what happened last season, but he’ll still give everything for AC Milan.”
