Pellegatti gives grim update on Maignan’s future after derby heroics: “Doesn’t want to know”

Mike Maignan has defined several AC Milan performances this season, but he may not have many more left to play out.

Last night’s derby win was the whole team’s success. However, some deserve more praise than others, due to key moments. For that reason, Maignan then deserves bundles of praise for his penalty save against Hakan Calhanoglu, as well as several other key stops.

In recent years, the Frenchman has been defined by his record from 12 yards. The ‘Magic’ tag has come and gone, much like his penalty record. Now, that wow factor has returned, and with it, his general game has improved massively.

Maignan misery

Sunday’s penalty save will live long in the memories of most Milanisti, but it may also be remembered in the future with a sour aftertaste. Maignan is brilliant, but he is heading towards an exit and hope is disappearing.

Talks of a renewal are not positive and the club are already near their final attempt, it seems. Unfortunately, Carlo Pellegatti’s update on the situation to Pressing has not given any boost in confidence, as MilanNews relays.

“The thing that drives me crazy is that Milan will lose Maignan for free. I’m going crazy. He’s one of the best goalkeepers in the world. Renewal? With this management, he doesn’t want to know about it.

“Maignan was promised a salary of 5 million. In January, things aren’t going well, and so Milan decides to offer 4 million.

“Obviously, Maignan didn’t agree. In March, they told the Frenchman they’d talk to Cardinale and sort out his contract.

“Since then, no one has said anything to Maignan. I’ve spoken to his entourage, and they don’t want to hear anything more. So we lose one of the best goalkeepers in the world. Can you believe it? And whoever arrives will still be a downgrade.”
