Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola spoke about the future of Bernardo Silva and Rodri's fitness
Pep Guardiola says he has not spoken with Bernardo Silva about his Manchester City future - but will be happy with any decision he makes. Silva was made captain by Guardiola for this season but is in the final year of his contract at the Etihad and has not committed to staying any longer.
Silva has said that he has already made a call on his future, and his boyhood club Benfica have made noises about bringing him back to Lisbon next season. The 31-year-old is free to talk to other clubs in January if he does not sign a new deal at City by then, but has also been clear that he will not yet speak about his decision.
Whether Guardiola has been informed or not, he will not be the one to reveal the decision. Asked about his captain's future, all the manager wants is for the player to be happy.
"I want the best for Bernardo," said Guardiola. "If he wants to stay, I will be more than delighted but I don't talk about that subject with him and all I want is the best for his family. He has been here for nine years already and he will decide with the club what is the best."
Silva could come back in for the Premier League game against Leeds having been one of 10 players rested for the shock Champions League defeat to Leverkusen, but his fellow captain Rodri will not be able to return. The Spaniard is still troubled by a hamstring problem that he suffered against Brentford six weeks ago and while he is not thought to be far from a return Saturday will be too soon for him.
