Liverpool will need to find a way of moving beyond Mohamed Salah this summer, and Peter Crouch believes the ideal signing might already be playing in the Premier League

While it feels like the right time for Liverpool and Mohamed Salah to part ways, moving beyond such an iconic player was never going to be an easy task.
Shortly after he signed a new two-year contract last year, the work began on how things would look when he wasn't there anymore. In came the likes of Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, with the attacking emphasis shifting.
Salah is in the middle of his worst season as a Liverpool player, but the blocks that will form the next team are already starting to take shape. In the summer, more transfers will be required, but the transition has already begun.

"Mo’s achieved everything at Liverpool and deserves this opportunity to try something else.
"But for Liverpool, how do you replace him? Last season, he had more than 40 goals and assists. It’s just impossible to replace without spending over £100 million."
There is one name that Crouch believes could be ideal for Liverpool, though: Anthony Gordon. The Newcastle winger almost signed for the Reds in 2024, when a deal was agreed in principle.

At that stage, Liverpool was willing to pay around $99 million (£75 million) for the England ace, only for Newcastle to end up selling Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh instead to raise the funds it required to meet the PSR rules.
"Gordon can go to a new level," Crouch said. "He’s definitely the type of player that would be amazing for the club. He’s a Scouser coming back to the city; it’d be amazing."
There is definitely a question mark attached to Newcastle's willingness to let Gordon leave, however.
While the Magpies might need another big sale to boost their spending power this summer, losing a key man wouldn't be ideal and Gordon has been in good form under Eddie Howe this year.

After the Isak saga of last summer, it would be logical for Liverpool to want to avoid a similar scenario happening again, too.
But whether it is Gordon or someone else, Salah will be a big miss at Liverpool and another winger — or maybe two — will be needed to redress the balance of Arne Slot's roster and inject some more pace in the final third.
Liverpool.com says: Gordon would be a very good signing for any of the teams at the top of the table. At Liverpool, there is a need to sign another quality wide player capable of playing centrally too, and he would fit the bill.
